GOALS GOALS GOALS

The Biola men’s soccer team put together a total of seven goals to take down LIFE Pacific at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA --- The Biola men's soccer team had a night to remember, defeating LIFE Pacific 7-1 at Al Barbour Field. It was an exciting match for Biola fans as six different athletes scored goals, seven players had assists and several Eagles got the opportunity to clock in.

"It's exciting to see the team have so much desire to attack and to be brave in our offensive movements," stated head coach Joey O'Keefe. "Coming off of two defeats, we had a chip on our shoulder tonight. We were able to have heavy rotation squad and production from so many players. Tonight was a big step forward for our confidence and mental attitude. This was the perfect result to get us ready for our conference home opener on Saturday."

Pedro Ashley was on fire against LIFE Pacific, scoring a collegiate-best of two goals in just 52 minutes of work.

Ashley cashed in Biola's first goal in the 31st minute. The Sophomore got a good read on the ball from Tomislav Jozinovic's corner kick to give Biola the 1-0 lead. Brennan Furlan kept the momentum going just two minutes later as he put one past the keeper for his second goal of the season.

Four minutes later, BU closed out the first half scoring with an exciting goal in the 35th minute. Jeremy Larson and Ashley set up Dylan Memory's goal that gave the Eagles' a 3-0 lead.

Robin Glöckle opened up the second half scoring in the 63rd minute, extending the Eagles' lead to 4-0. The Graduate Student recorded his first collegiate goal at Biola and then assisted Jeremy Larson in the next. Larson scored BU's fifth goal which was also his first collegiate goal.

Samuel Vandegrift might have experienced a sense of déjà vu in the second half, as he netted his second career goal—exactly 366 days after scoring his first, both against LPU's Warriors. This milestone goal was set up by a duo of Eagles, Jorge Negrete and Luca McGreevey Couchman.

The Eagles left it up to the man who started the scoring to close it out. Ashley scored Biola's seventh goal in the 88th minute thanks to a good ball from Em Baris.

Biola's defense held the Warriors scoreless until the final seconds. The Warriors ended up making their way onto the board off a penalty kick.

Aidan Burns and Elijah Mineiro split time in the goal. Burns received the start and logged 60 minutes where he had one save. Mineiro made his collegiate debut, stepping in for the final 30 minutes and recorded his first career save.

Biola plans to keep the momentum rolling into PacWest Conference play as they are scheduled to play next in their conference opener against Westmont on Saturday, September 28th at 4 pm at Al Barbour Field.
