Eagles Stike Last, Not Enough to Overpower Toros

The men’s soccer team struck last, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Cal State Dominguez Hills in their 3-2 loss at Toro Stadium.

CARSON, Calif.---The Biola men's soccer team struck last, but it wasn't enough to overcome Cal State Dominguez Hills in their 3-2 loss at Toro Stadium.

The Toros had an early goal that the Eagles would counter in the 18th minute. Freshman Ryan Ellsworth netted his first collegiate goal which leveled the score at 1-1. Ethan Hardin had the assist on Ellsworth's goal.

Cal State Dominguez Hills wasted no time regaining the lead, striking just three minutes after Biola's equalizer to go up 2-1. They extended their advantage in the 56th minute, scoring again to make it 3-1.

As the clock ticked down in the second half, the Eagles kept their composure and Hardin would be the one to step up for his team. The Junior scored off a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, giving BU hope of a comeback (3-2).

Biola's offense would get in two more shots before the clock expired. Joseph Davis' shot was saved by the Toros keeper in the 82nd minute and Robin Glöckle had a shot that went wide.

Gijs van Schouten was Biola's goal keeper for the full 90. Van Schouten made four saves against CSUDH to keep it close.

The Eagles play next on Tuesday, September 24 at 7 pm at Al Barbour Field against LIFE Pacific.
