LA MIRADA—The Biola volleyball team lost a five-set thriller to Fresno Pacific (25-21, 18-25, 19-25, 25-17 9-15) in their home opener at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles (2-7 overall, 0-1 PacWest) outlasted the Sunbirds (5-3, 1-0) in the first set, pulling ahead late in their 25-21 victory. Biola benefited from 10 Fresno Pacific errors, five of which allowed them to take the final lead of the set. Lexi Lambert helped the Eagles pull ahead with her great work at the service line, leading the six-point run that put BU ahead 19-16. Lambert also had one ace during the Eagles' run.

Fresno Pacific regrouped and came back strong, taking wins in the next two sets (25-18 and 25-19).

Biola would not go quietly and fought to win the fourth set. Well-placed attacks and Biola resilience forced the Sunbirds to commit 12 errors. The Eagles also had three aces, two from Hanson and one from Bethany Bellfi. Tully was Biola's offensive leader with four kills.

Despite their best efforts, Biola couldn't overcome Fresno Pacific's firepower in the final set. The Sunbirds pulled ahead and claimed the fifth set (15-9) which translated to a 3-2 victory.

Head coach Brian Failinger completed his first match at home as Biola's fearless leader and his team demonstrated heart and resilience in their conference opener.
