BU Shows Fight in Narrow Loss

The men’s soccer team displayed remarkable resilience in their 3-2 loss against undefeated Cal State San Marcos at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's soccer team displayed remarkable resilience in their 3-2 loss against undefeated Cal State San Marcos at Al Barbour Field.

Biola (1-3-1 overall) struck first, sending the home crowd into a frenzy in the 26th minute when Ethan Hardin, assisted by Eoin Kingsley, found the back of the net with a well-placed shot. This early goal gave Biola a 1-0 lead and set the tone for a competitive match.

However, Cal State San Marcos responded swiftly, leveling the score at 1-1 just minutes later.

As the game wore on, CSUSM added two more goals, but Biola refused to back down. Brennan Furlan's goal in the 70th minute brought the Eagles back into contention, narrowing the deficit to 3-2 and reignited hope for a late comeback.

The Eagles poured on the pressure in the second half, taking 10 shots, with multiple efforts from Cruz Navarro and Leandro Weingartner testing the opposition's defense. Goalkeeper Gijs van Schouten also played a key role, making five critical saves to keep Biola in the game.

Although Biola ultimately came up short, the Eagles played a competitive match against a strong Cal State San Marcos squad.

Biola plays their next match on the road against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, September 21 at 7pm.
