LA MIRADA --- Biola's Men's Water Polo Head Coach Rick Nordell has added some firepower to his coaching staff, heading into a new year. Samantha and Shyanne Rainey will both join the staff this fall in part-time and volunteer roles.

The dynamic duo will bring with them a wealth of water polo experience. The Raineys boast a combined eight collegiate seasons of water polo in Southern California.

"I am super excited to join the coaching staff for the men's water polo team," commented Samantha Rainey. "I am excited to work with Mitchell, Dach, and the incoming goalies! I am beyond grateful to Rick and Micah for giving me this opportunity to be a part of this program. In addition, this year has a great group of guys, and I cannot wait to see how we do this year." 

As a former goalie, Samantha will primarily work with the keepers for BU. Through two seasons with the Eagles, she compiled nearly 200 saves on her way to an ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention, while helping the team to a conference crown.

Samantha was a part of the inaugural Biola Women's Water Polo squad and aided the team's quick rise to the Nationals stage, before moving on to finish her playing career at Concordia. Rainey thrived in the classroom, as well, earning WWPA All-Academic Team, ACWPC All-Academic List, and CSC Academic All-District

Shyanne Rainey will be a volunteer assistant coach in charge of social media content for Biola Men's Water Polo. She gave her aide to the Eagles last year but will now do it with an official title in 2024.

"I am excited about joining the coaching staff, working on social media, and helping the program grow," said Shyanne. "I'm ready to learn from Rick and Micah and capture the men's upcoming season. Give @biolamwp on Instagram a follow!"

Shyanne's playing career began at Azusa Pacific, where she spent four years and collected D2ADA Academic Achievement, CSC Academic All-District, and GCC First Team All-Freshman awards. She moved on to CSU Fullerton last year, playing one season for the Titans, while pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in biomechanics.

The 2024 season for the BU men's water polo team is set to begin on September 7 at the Navy Open in Annapolis, Maryland.
