A Lot to Be Proud Of

The Biola men’s tennis team gave it their all against nationally-ranked No. 19 Hawaii Pacific but would eventually fall 4-1 to the Sharks at the Kailua Racquet Club.

KAILUA, Hawaii---The Biola men's tennis team gave it their all against nationally-ranked No. 19 Hawaii Pacific but would eventually fall 4-1 to the Sharks at the Kailua Racquet Club.

The Eagles, nationally-ranked No. 47, made Hawaii Pacific work for every victory. Doubles played out on all three courts and every court went to a tiebreak. Nico Ramirez and Thiago Canessa won on the third court, but BU would lose on courts 1 and 2.

Ramirez, 32nd-best singles player in the nation, recorded Biola's only singles win against No. 36 Robin Sanz. Ramirez took down Sanz 6-2, 6-4 to put BU on the scoreboard.

Callen Hein lost an admirable three-set battle to HPU's Mile Matic. Hein fell 6-2 in his first set and then won 6-2 in the second. The Senior eventually lost the third 6-4.

Patricio Larrea and Santino Serrallonga's matches were left unfinished. Larrea was in a three-set duel against HPU's Bruno Johannes and Serrallonga's match was left unresolved in the second-set tiebreaker.

Larrea won his first set 7-5, fell the second 6-0 and was tied at 4-4 in the third set on the fifth court.

Serrallonga lost his first set on the sixth court 6-3 and was in a second-set tiebreaker where his opponent was leading.

Biola has a lot to be proud of, ending a successful 2024 with a 16-9 overall record and at the NCAA Division II West Regional.
