KAILUA, Hawaiʻi—The Biola men's tennis team is in Oʻahu, preparing to compete in the West Regional against nationally-ranked No. 19 Hawaiʻi Pacific at the Kailua Racquet Club.
BU plays HPU tomorrow Tuesday, May 14 at 3 p.m. PT (12 p.m. HT) in the Division II West Regional match-up. The winner will advance to the NCAA DII Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida (May 20-25).
This is the second time that Biola has advanced to the NCAA DII West Regional in program history. The last time the Eagles played in the West Regional was in 2022 where BU lost 4-1 to APU.
The Eagles, national-ranked No. 47, played  Hawaiʻi Pacific twice this season. The first time BU and HPU faced each other was at the Biola Tennis Center and then again at the PacWest Championships. Biola lost 4-3 to HPU in La Mirada and 4-0 at the conference championships.
Biola has five players with double-digit singles wins and is led by three All-PacWest selections: Nico Ramírez,
Adrian Solorzano and
Alejandro Flores Monteverde.
Ramírez, nationally-ranked No. 32, was the PacWest's Newcomer of the Year and a First Team All-PacWest selection. Ramírez has been nationally ranked for 20-consecutive weeks and is the fourth-best PacWest Conference player in ITA's rankings.
Ramírez was chosen as PacWest Player of the Week twice this season and is 14-6 overall from the first court entering the NCAA DII West Regionals. Nine of his 14 wins were taken in dominant two-set victories.
Solorzano was a Second Team All-PacWest pick who has Biola's most singles wins with an overall record of 15-5. Solorzano split time between the first, second and third courts. He is 2-0 from the first court, 7-5 from the second and 6-0 from the third. Eleven of his 15 wins were won in two sets.
As a doubles pair, Ramírez and Solorzano were named First Team All-PacWest with their 12-6 record from the first court.
