Eagles Drop Two To APU

The Biola softball team came up short to Azusa Pacific, losing both games of their doubleheader at the Cougar Softball Complex.

AZUSA, Calif.---The Biola softball team came up short to Azusa Pacific, losing both games of their doubleheader at the Cougar Softball Complex.

Biola lost their first game 7-4 and their second 5-1 to the Cougars.

In BU's 7-4 first game loss, Azusa Pacific would score runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-0 lead. 

Biola broke through in the sixth inning where they scored four runs off of five hits and one Cougar error. Allie Beck, Abie Nowak, Brie Nowak, Mikala Huskey and Kaitlyn Hawkins recorded hits.

Kayla Bousquette threw the first 4.2 innings where Azusa Pacific had 10 hits and scored seven runs. DJ Symons closed the final 1.1 innings, holding APU scoreless with just one hit.

In the second game of the day's doubleheader, the Eagles fell 5-1 to APU. 

Biola experienced some deja vu in game two. The Cougars would build up a lead and Biola wouldn't score until the sixth.

APU accumulated a five-run lead by scoring runs the first, fourth and fifth innings.


Biola wouldn't be able to answer back until the sixth. Alexa Medley doubled to center field to lead off the sixth inning and would be pushed to third by a good piece of situational hitting from Abie Nowak. In the next at-bat Medley would be scored from a sacrifice fly from Raylene Roybal (5-1).

DJ Symons started the game for Biola in the circle and was relieved by Roybal in the first inning. Roybal threw the final six innings where she allowed APU two runs from five scattered hits.

Next up for BU is the PacWest Championships on Wednesday, May 1.
