Ending on a Positive Note

The Eagles wrapped up their 2024 season with a 9-0 rout of No. 4 Point Loma on Saturday afternoon.

LA MIRADA --- Saturday was filled with smiles and emotion as the Biola baseball squad said goodbye to its seniors. The day had plenty of heartfelt moments with the seniors embracing their teammates as they exited for the final time. The celebration of seniors culminated in a game two win, as Biola defeated the visiting No. 4 Point Loma Sea Lions, 9-0.

The Eagles rallied in the second inning of game two, putting together a string of six-straight hits with two outs. The Sea Lions could not get out of the frame, as Biola opened up a 4-0 lead.

Isaiah Leon had a big hit in the offensive outburst, launching a double off the wall in left field. Jonathan Smith came up next and picked up two RBI with a single through the infield.

Lucas Bixby kept the Eagles in front with four scoreless frames on the mound. The righty delivered in his start, working through 18 batters with three strikeouts.

The hits kept coming for the Biola offense, as the squad put up four more runs between the fourth and fifth frames. Singles were the name of the game with four in the four-run stretch. Austin Carrillo delivered the lone extra-base hit in the rally, bringing home two runs with a double down the right field line.

Ryan Lachemann took over for Bixby in the middle of the fifth and quickly dictated the pace of the game. The senior was one step ahead of the PLNU batters in 2.2 innings of work. Lachemann put together a scoreless and hitless outing, ending the game with his third strikeout.

AJ Ortiz was perfect at the plate in the win, going 4-4 with a double and one RBI. On the day, Ortiz logged six base hits in eight at bats with a pair of multi-hit performances.
