Four-Game Sweep Over Sharks

The Biola softball team’s back-to-back wins today over Hawaii Pacific secured their four-game sweep over the Sharks.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team's back-to-back wins today over Hawaii Pacific secured their four-game sweep over the Sharks.

Biola defeated Hawaii Pacific 4-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

GAME 1 (BU 4 HPU 0)
Raylene Roybal threw another gem against the Sharks, only allowing one hit in seven innings. The redshirt-Senior worked the zone, producing four 1-2-3 innings and five strikeouts.

Biola's offense also got the job done, scoring runs in the second, third, and fourth innings.

BU took the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs (2-0). With one out, Mikala Huskey doubled to get the momentum flowing Biola's way. Kaitlyn Hawkins then worked a walk which allowed Huskey to advance to third. 

The stage was set for Bridgette Trujillo who singled to left field to score Biola's first run (1-0) and then Jackie Ibarra loaded the bases with a base knock down the left field line. Kennadie Tsue was Biola's next batter who executed a perfect piece of situational hitting, scoring Hawkins off a sacrifice fly (2-0).

Biola pushed across single runs in the third and fourth innings. Roybal had a lead-off triple perfectly placed down the right field line and she would eventually be scored by a Hawkins' single (3-0).

Kylee Messmer scored BU's fourth run in the fourth inning. Messmer singled up the middle to score Ibarra who got on by an error (4-0).

GAME 2 (BU 3 HPU 1)
Biola wasted no time with scoring in the second game, posting runs in the first and second innings.

Tsue walked to lead off the first inning and was pushed to second from an Alexa Medley sacrifice bunt. Abie Nowak then singled to give BU runners on first and third. Roybal put the ball and play and ended up scoring the Eagles' first run off a fielder's choice (1-0).

Brie Nowak extended the inning with a single to right field and then Huskey got on by a Shark error which loaded the bases.
Hawkins cashed in Biola's final run of the inning with a single up the middle (2-0).

Biola cushioned their lead with one more run in the second inning. The Eagles experienced some deja vu. Ibarra walked to lead-off the inning and was pushed to second from a sacrifice bunt by Tsue.

Medley then grounded out to shortstop but speedy Ibarra was able to advance to third.

Abie Nowak picked up her team, scoring Ibarra with a hard hit up the middle (3-0).

Kayla Bousquette and DJ Symons were Biola's winning pitching staff. Bousquette got the start and Symons relieved in the sixth inning. The Sophomores teamed up to secure the win for BU. Bousquette got the win and Symons recorded her third save of the season.

The Eagles play next on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 4 and 6:30 p.m. against CUI which will be Biola's senior game.
