Defense Does It

The softball team shut out Hawaii Pacific 1-0 at Freedom Field.

LA MIRADA—The Biola softball team shut out Hawaii Pacific 1-0 at Freedom Field.

Biola displayed a strong defensive performance against HPU. Raylene Roybal got the job done on the mound, throwing 10 strikeouts and three 1-2-3 innings.

Hawaii Pacific didn't get a single hit off Roybal until the fourth inning. Roybal showed her resilience on the mound, producing big outs when necessary and limited the Sharks to six scattered hits.

HPU got a rally going in the top of the seventh but would be denied by BU. With one out, Hawaii Pacific had runners in scoring position and Biola would dig deep to hold them there. Roybal fielded her position, rolling back-to-back outs to close the game.

Biola scored their run in the second inning. Roybal doubled to lead off the inning and would score on a Hawaii Pacific error.

Kaitlyn Hawkins and Roybal led Biola's offense, going 2-for-3 in the second game of the day.

Biola plays HPU two more times tomorrow Tuesday, Apr. 16 at 3:30 and 6 p.m.
