Coming Home off a Win

The softball team salvaged a split in Friday’s doubleheader against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

CARSON, Calif.---The Biola softball team salvaged a split in Friday's doubleheader against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Eagles lost the first game of the day 5-1 to the Toros, but came back to win the second 5-3 at the Toro Diamond. 

GAME 2 (BU 5 CSUDH 2)
Biola wasted no time in their second game, tacking on four runs in the first inning.

Kennadie Tsue, Raylene Roybal, Mikala Huskey and Makayla Jordan recorded hits for BU in the first. Roybal sparked a two-out rally that pushed Tsue to second. Brie Nowak walked to give the Eagles bases loaded and then Mikala Huskey would cash in two runs off a single to center (2-0).

Jordan kept the inning alive, scoring two additional insurance runs with her single to left field (4-0).

The Toros chipped away at the Eagles' lead until they where only chasing by one (4-3). Cal State Dominguez Hills scored two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning to make up their three runs. 

The Eagles shut down the Toros in the sixth and then got to work in the seventh where they scored an additional run. 

Alexa Medley singled to get the seventh started, but BU's momentum would slow as the next two batters got out. Roybal clutched up for her team again, starting another two-out rally with a base knock up the middle that advanced Medley to second. 

Brie Nowak kept it going with single that scored Medley and put Biola up 5-3.

BU successfully defended their lead in the bottom of the seventh. DJ Symons was in the circle and worked her way out of a dangerous situation. The Toros' first two batters got on base, but Symons would be unphased and get the next three outs from two ground outs and a fly out. 

Symons earned a save against Cal State Dominguez Hills. She threw three inning and only allowed one run to score.

Raylene Roybal started the game and was the Eagles' winning pitcher. Roybal tossed four innings where she allowed nine hits and only two runs to score.

GAME 1 (BU 1 CSUDH 5)
Cal State Dominguez Hills accumulated a comfortable lead in the second inning where they scored five runs from four hits (5-0). 

The Eagles fought to close the gap but would only score a single run in the fourth. Brie Nowak homered to make the score 5-1.

Huskey led BU's offense, batting 3-for-3. Additionally, Brie Nowak went 2-for-3 and Medley hit .500 (2-for-4).

Kayla Bousquette and Symons were the Eagles' pitching staff for the first game. Bousquette got the start and Symons came in to relieve in the second inning.

Biola plays next on Monday, Apr. 15 at 3:30 and 6 p.m. against Hawaii Pacific at Freedom Field.
