LA MIRADA—Nico Ramirez put the Biola men's tennis team on the scoreboard in their 4-1 loss to nationally-ranked No. 20 Azusa Pacific at the Biola Tennis Center.
Ramirez, nationally-ranked No. 12 by the ITA, picked up Biola's only victory on the first court in singles. Ramirez faced APU's Miha Velicki and defeated him 6-2, 6-2.
Biola began the match by losing the doubles point, but Ramirez would briefly tie it up 1-1 with his triumph on the first court. APU charged back with a victory on the second court, taking back the lead (2-1).
Lightning and rain forced the match to be postponed until the next day (today, Mar. 8) with courts 3 through 6 still in action.
The Eagles and Cougars played to clinch and APU would lock in wins on the fifth and third courts to clinch the match, 4-1.
Alejandro Flores Monteverde lost a three-set battle to APU's Soren Grandke on the third court. Flores Monteverde lost his first set 6-3 and came back to win his second 6-4. The Freshman ended up falling 6-1 in the third.
Caleb Hein was also in a third-set duel on the sixth court. Hein lost his first set 6-3 and fought back to win the second 6-3. Hein's match against APU's Max Schmidhauser was left unfinished but he was leading 2-1 in the third set.
Biola plays next on Monday, Mar. 11 at 10 a.m. against Texas Permian Basin at the Biola Tennis Center.
