A Golden Opportunity

The women’s basketball team is headed out to Point Loma’s Golden Gymnasium to participate in the 2023-24 PacWest Championships.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.---The Biola women's basketball team is headed out to Point Loma's Golden Gymnasium to participate in the 2023-24 PacWest Championships.

The fifth-seeded Eagles are set to begin the first round of the Championships tomorrow Thursday, Mar. 7 at 5 p.m. against hosts and the third-seeded Point Loma.

Biola enters the conference Championships 14-14 overall and 13-7 in the PacWest while PLNU is 17-11 overall and 13-7 in the league. 

The Eagles have defeated the Sea Lions twice this season, the first time was away at the Golden Gymnasium and the second was at Chase Gymnasium.

In San Diego, BU prevailed with a 59-50 victory over Point Loma. Biola played together and limited the Sea Lions production on offense, holding PLNU to 27.9 percent in the field and 21.2 percent beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Eagles shot 46.7 percent from the field and 36.4 percent downtown with Jordan Rabe leading the offensive effort with 16 points. 

In La Mirada, Biola beat Point Loma 80-69. Laila Walker and Jaycee Goldsmith led the Eagles with 14 points each. The Eagles were all-around explosive on offense, shooting 54.7 percent from the field and 51 percent downtown.

This is the fourth-consecutive year that Biola has qualified for the conference Championships. The Eagles are getting a chance for redemption as the Sea Lions clipped BU in the opening round of the 2022-23 PacWest Championships.
