Softball Splits With APU

The softball team split Monday’s PacWest Conference doubleheader with Azusa Pacific; they won the first game 1-0 and lost 3-1 in the second game at Freedom Field.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team split Monday's PacWest Conference doubleheader with Azusa Pacific. The Eagles won the first game 1-0 and lost 3-1 in game two at Freedom Field.

Azusa Pacific (8-6, 1-1 PacWest) scored three runs off of three solo homers. APU had their first home run in the third inning and then two solo shots in the fifth.

Biola (4-7, 2-4) scored one run in the third. Mikala Huskey doubled to begin the inning and was pushed to third by a Jackie Ibarra sacrifice bunt. Alexa Medley came up next and scored Huskey with a single up the middle. 

The score was tied 1-1 for the next inning, but Azusa Pacific would come up on top in the fifth with their two solo home runs.

Kayla Bousquette began the game for Biola on the mound and threw 4.2 innings where she allowed the Cougars three runs off of five hits. DJ Symons relieved Bousquette in the fifth inning and got the last out of the inning to send the Eagles back on offense. 

Symons continued to close out the last two innings without any further damage. 

Abie Nowak and Medley led Biola's offensive effort in game two with two hits each. Huskey also batted well for BU, batting 1-for-2.

Next up for Biola is nationally-ranked No. 24 CUI at Golden Eagles Stadium on Friday, Mar. 8 at 4 and 6pm.
