Eagles Go Extra With #24 CUI

The softball team nearly upset nationally-ranked No. 24 CUI in extra innings, but the home team would walk it off 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola softball team nearly upset nationally-ranked No. 24 CUI in extra innings, but the home team would walk it off 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth. 

Heading into the top of the seventh inning, Biola trailed CUI 3-2 but would rally back to tie up the game.

With one out, Alexa Medley singled to get the seventh inning started for Biola. Medley was then pushed over to second by Abie Nowak who grounded out first base.

Raylene Roybal got the two-out rally started with a single up the middle that gave the Eagles runners on first and third. Kennadie Tsue clutched up next with the game-tying single that was smacked to left field (3-3). 

Biola then held the Golden Eagles on defense. Raylene Roybal kept CUI off balance, getting the first two outs back-to-back and then tossing a strikeout to close out the inning after walking the third batter.

Biola was shut down in the top of the eighth by CUI who would turn around and walk off the game in the bottom of the inning. Concordia homered with a runner on base to walk off the game (5-2).

Roybal threw the complete game for Biola where she allowed CUI to score five runs off 10 hits. 

The Eagles recorded 13 hits against Concordia's pitching staff. Tsue and Roybal led Biola with three hits and Jackie Ibarra and Medley had the next-best with two. 

Bridgette Trujillo, Kaitlyn Hawkins and Tsue earned RBI's against the Golden Eagles pitching staff who average a 1.20 combined ERA.
