Comeback Attempt Thwarted

The softball team began to come back against nationally-ranked No. 16 Northwest Nazarene but would be held short in their 6-3 loss.

SEASIDE, Calif.---The Biola softball team began to come back against nationally-ranked No. 16 Northwest Nazarene but would be held short in their 6-3 loss.

The Eagles scored first. Kennadie Tsue walked to lead off the inning and was pushed to second by a sacrifice bunt by Alexa Medley. Abie Nowak came up third and knocked a single to the right side to score Tsue and put BU up 1-0.

Northwest Nazarene answered back by building up a 6-run lead in the second, third, and fourth innings.

Biola dug deep and would begin to come back in the fifth inning where they scored their second run off of a Nighthawk error.

Headed into the sixth, the Eagles continued to fight and would score an additional run to make the score 6-3.

With one out, Kylee Messmer walked to get the inning going for Biola. Tsue and Alexa Medley then recorded back-to-back singles to load the bases. Messmer scored in the next at-bat on a fielder's choice produced by Nowak.

However, the Eagles' comeback attempt would be cut short as Northwest Nazarene would shut out Biola with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh.

Kayla Bousquette started the game for BU and threw five innings of action. Bousquette gave up no hits but allowed NNU three runs to score. The Sophomore also had six strikeouts.

DJ Symons relieved for Bousquette in the middle of the second inning and threw until the top of the third. Symons gave up five hits and allowed two runs to score. Jackie Ibarra closed out the third inning, allowing one hit and one run to score.

Bousquette came back in during the fourth inning and closed out the game.

The Eagles are playing again, NOW, against CSU Monterey Bay.
