Finishing the Day Strong

The softball team finished strong, winning the second game of the day’s doubleheader 3-1.

LA MIRADA—The Biola softball team finished strong, winning the second game of the day's doubleheader 3-1.

Hilo scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but Biola would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the inning (2-1).

Jackie Ibarra had a lead-off walk to get the inning going. Alexa Medley extended the Eagles' momentum by laying down a bunt for a single. Biola then recorded their first out of the inning off a fielder's choice that got out Ibarra at third.

Raylene Roybal came up next and clutched up when her team needed her the most, doubling to deep right-center which scored Medley and Tsue.

After four scoreless innings, Biola would add some insurance to their lead. Medley had a lead-off triple and then Tsue scored her off a sacrifice fly to right field.

Kayla Bousquette threw the complete game for Biola, only allowing the Vulcans one run and sevens scattered hits. The Sophomore also recorded six strikeouts, the last was the final out in the seventh.

UH Hilo had some momentum in the bottom of the seventh, but would be shut down by Bousquette. After the first out, Hawaii Hilo would get runners on first and second due to a walk and a base hit.

Bouquette stayed resilient and rolled the next out which split the runners at first and third. With the tying-run on third base, Bousquette held her composure and struckout the final batter to end the game.

Roybal and Medley led the Eagles' offensive effort, going 2-for-3. Roybal also scored two RBIs and Tsue had one.

Biola and Hawaii Hilo play again tomorrow, Mar. 19 at 2 and 4:30 p.m. at Freedom Field.
