March 18, 2024

Box Score LA MIRADA --- Afternoon lightning pushed back the men's tennis match between Biola and Hawaii Hilo to over three hours past its originally scheduled start time. The afternoon match turned night contest featured a 4-2 win for the Eagles, as they took down the 39th-ranked Hawaii Hilo Vulcans.

Finally hitting the courts just before 7:00 pm, the doubles play began with back-to-back quick sets. Court No. 2 was a BU victory behind Patricio Larrea and Santino Serralonga in a 6-1 rout. UHH responded in the No. 1 spot, leaving the third court to decide the doubles point. The match could not have been closer, needing a tiebreaker to determine the winner. Thiago Canessa and Alejandro Flores Monteverde got the job done in a 7-6 win, taking the tiebreaker, 7-3.

A thrilling start to the match shifted to singles play under the lights.

Adrian Solorzano made quick work on the No. 3 court, winning in straight sets. He took down his opponent with sets of 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour.

Hawaii Hilo responded with a sweep in the No. 5 spot and cut the BU lead to 2-1.

Flores Montverde picked up the next point for BU on court number two. The freshman was victorious over the 49th-ranked singles player to put the Eagles at match-point. The first set went the distance at 7-6 but he would finish it off with a 6-4 win in second two.

The clinching point came from Callen Hein. Hein took the three-set win in just his second match in the No. 4 spot. The senior added his sixth singles win of 2024, moving his season record to 6-1.

Biola men's tennis will take on Azusa Pacific in its next match, battling the Cougars on the road at 2:00 pm.
