Biola Scores First But Not Enough

The Biola softball team scored first, but would fall 7-1 to the nationally-ranked No. 9 Cal State San Marcos Cougars.

SAN MARCOS, Calif.---The Biola softball team scored first, but would fall 7-1 to the nationally-ranked No. 9 Cal State San Marcos Cougars.

Biola made their way onto the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Jackie Ibarra and Alexa Medley got the inning started with back-to-back singles.

Kennadie Tsue came up next and hit a fielder's choice that left runners on first and third. During Abie Nowak's at-bat, the CSUSM catcher threw the ball into Nowak's helmet which allowed Medey to score from third (1-0).

The Cougars would score runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings to build up a seven-run lead while holding the Eagles scoreless.

Raylene Roybal threw the first five innings for BU where the Cougars had four hits and scored five runs. Kylee Messmer pitched the last inning for Biola where she allowed CSUSM four hits and two earned runs.
