Narrow Loss

The softball team suffered a 2-1 loss to ART U in the second part of the day’s doubleheader at Cottrell Field.

MORAGA, Calif.---The Biola Softball team suffered a close 2-1 loss to Academy of Art in the second part of the day's doubleheader at Cottrell Field.

The damage was done for both teams in the fourth inning. Biola worked ahead by scoring the first run of the game in the top of the fourth, but ART U would come back bigger in the bottom of the inning.

Raylene Roybal had a lead-off walk to get the inning started and was pushed to second by Brie Nowak who laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Biola's next out was a pop up which sent Kaitlyn Hawkins up to bat with two outs. Hawkins clutched up with a double down the left field line that scored Roybal and gave BU the 1-0 lead.

However, Academy of Art would answer back in the bottom of the inning by scoring two runs off of three hits which switched the lead over to the Urban Knights (2-1).

Then three scoreless innings would pass which allowed ART U to claim game two 2-1.

Abie Nowak led Biola's offense, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Jackie Ibarra, Mikala Huskey, Kennadie Tsue and Hawkins also contributed hits.

Kayla Bousquette started the game in the circle and threw 3.1 innings where she allowed three hits and two earned runs to score. DJ Symons came in the bottom of the fourth and threw the final two outs to get BU out of the inning.

Symons threw the last two innings and only allowed ART U one hit.

Biola has the chance to salvage a split as the Eagles and Urban Knights will play again tomorrow Saturday, Feb 24 at 12 and 2 p.m.
