Eagles Stumped in Game One

The softball team struggled against Academy of Art’s defense, resulting in their 4-1 loss in game one at Cottrell Field.

MORAGA, Calif.---The Biola softball team struggled against Academy of Art's defense, resulting in their 4-1 loss in game one at Cottrell Field.

The Urban Knights (5-5, 1-0 PacWest) only slightly out-hit the Eagles (2-4, 0-1), but were able to capitalize with runners on base while Biola fell short. BU left 10 runners stranded on base while ART U only left five.

Biola left five of their 10 runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings. Despite making two errors (one in the 6th and one in the 7th), the Urban Knights would manage to make their way out of tricky situations on defense.

BU had a breakthrough in the seventh inning where they were able to string together a couple hits. With one out, Jackie Ibarra singled to get the inning started for Biola and advanced to second from a single by Alexa Medley and then to third from an Urban Knight error on the same play.

Abie Nowak clutched up with a one-out sacrifice fly that scored Ibarra (4-1) and Raylene Roybal began a two-out rally after being hit by ART U's pitcher. However, Biola's rally was cut short. Bridgette Trujillo hit a hard line drive but ART U's third baseman was able to snag it which ended the game.

Ibarra led the Eagles on offense, batting 500 (2-for-4). Kennadie Tsue also hit 500 (1-for-2) and Roybal and Medley also had hits.

Roybal pitched the complete game for Biola, allowing four hits and three earned runs. Roybal also had four strikeouts against the Urban Knights.
