Fantastic Finale

The last game of the 2024 season was a success, as the Eagles finished the year on a three-match win streak.

ROCKLIN, Calif. --- Biola took over Northern California with three wins in four days through its road trip. The Eagles (9-19, 7-13 PacWest) wrapped up the weekend and their season on Saturday, defeating Jessup (15-12, 11-9 PacWest) in five sets.

Jessup started strong in Friday's contest, maintaining an efficient attack through set one. Biola's defense struggled to contain Jessup's offensive momentum, despite contributions from Kendall Vandertuig and Madison Moore, who both showed early signs of consistency at the net. Big runs from both sides ended the match, as BU took control with a six-point run but the Warriors clinched the opening set at 25-22 with five-consecutive rally wins.

Biola's response was dominant in set number two. Hannah Hanson led the attack with precision sets, while Hannah Guzzetti was explosive at the net with four kills and hitting .800. The team's sideout efficiency rose to an impressive 83%. Biola also tightened their defense, limiting Jessup's attack to just a .188 hitting percentage in this set. The BU lead continued to grow to the final point, evening the match with a 25-17 set two win.

The Eagles carried their momentum into the third set, with Guzzetti and Vandertuig continuing to shine, offensively. The defense also stepped up with five blocks. Jessup's 10 attack errors helped Biola maintain a steady lead, allowing BU to take the set, 25-19.

Jessup rallied to force a deciding set. Jessup put together a 6-0 run at the start and never looked back, holding firm control through point 25. Biola offered seven kills in set four but also gave up seven attack errors, falling 25-17 in the set.

Biola dominated the fifth set with a stellar all-around performance. Guzzetti was the star, contributing three kills and a solo block. Moore and Sierra Leopold delivered with a match-winning block. Jessup's attack broke down, hitting -.158 due to Biola's relentless defense.

Guzzetti completed the match with a team-high 14 kills. She hit .500 for BU and added two solo blocks, one block assist and one service ace on Saturday.

Two other Eagles reached the double-digit kill threshold, including Kendall Vandertuig and Madison Moore. The duo of outside hitters went for a combined 24 kills with both hitting above .230.

Sierra Leopold did it all at the net, offering three kills and three combined blocks for Biola.

Bri Bellfi starred in the back row with 26 digs in the season finale. The junior notched her seventh match this year with at least 20 digs and averaged 5.2 digs per set on Saturday. Her sister, Bethany Bellfi, was not far behind, collecting 14 digs in the win.

Setting up the offense, Hanson and Lexi Lambert delivered with 21 and 18 assists, respectively.

The Eagles finished the 2024 season on Saturday and graduate Sierra Leopold and Katie Cook.
