Eagles Rout Oaks

Biola’s first matchup with Menlo as PacWest foes resulted in a BU sweep on Saturday afternoon.

LA MIRADA --- Biola bounced back on Saturday, returning to the winning column in a major way. The Eagles (6-16, 4-10 PacWest) looked unstoppable with a clean sweep of the visiting Oaks from Menlo College (8-13, 5-9 PacWest).

For the third time this season, the Eagles claimed a 3-0 victory, thanks to Madison Moore on the attack. The second-year redshirt freshman piled on 14 kills on 38 swings. Moore added three aces and two block assists for 18 points.

"My teammates were really supportive of me today and kept me confident," commented Moore after the game. "I think we showed today that we can finish the season strong."

Moore led a prolific BU attack that delivered 37 kills with just 12 errors. The team hit .253 on the day, which is its third-best mark of the season.

Set number one was close-knit but strong rallies behind Bri Bellfi and Simi Kapustova's serves put the Eagles ahead. BU maxed its lead at seven with the set-winning kill from Moore.

Set two was always in Biola's favor, as the host squad took the lead at 3-2 and never gave it up. Five Eagles posted at least two kills in the set, as the group netted 15. BU held a seven-point advantage twice but finally won the set at 25-20.

The closest battle came in the final set with the two teams locking up at 20 apiece. Menlo earned an early lead but Biola responded and kept the game in balance. Moore took over the serve after an error from the Oaks and landed two aces to help push the scoreline to 24-20. Payton Tully clinched the match win with the final kill.

True freshman Emma Fairbairn offered her most efficient performance in her young career, slamming eight kills on 15 swings. Only one error made for a stellar hitting percentage of .467.

Biola's two setters looked strong with 16 assists from Hannah Hanson and 15 from Lexi Lambert.

The digs leader for the game was none other than Bri Bellfi, who went for 15 digs. Moore and Hanson added to their impressive showings with seven and eight digs, respectively.

The Eagles will hit the road for their next contest, facing Point Loma on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
