Comeback

The men’s soccer team came back from behind to defeat Concordia University Irvine 2-1 at Golden Eagles Field.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola men's soccer team came back from behind to defeat Concordia University Irvine 2-1 at Golden Eagles Field. The Biola Eagles picked up their first PacWest Conference victory, improving to 3-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the PacWest while CUI fell to 2-4-0 and 0-2 in the PacWest.

"Playing at Concordia is always such a battle," stated head coach Joey O'Keefe. "Credit to our guys who stayed extremely disciplined in the game plan and executed at both ends of the field today. We had to dig deep for this one, we came in with a disappointing performance last week and so much to prove. We are celebrating this win tonight but will get back to work first thing tomorrow morning."

CUI opened up the scoring with a goal in the game's first minute (1-0). Biola, despite the early setback, maintained their composure and responded with offensive pressure. The Eagles' persistence would pay off just six minutes later when freshman Cruz Navarro netted the game-tying goal (1-1).

The intensity picked up through the first half as both teams battled for the lead. Goalkeeper Gijs van Schouten made three big saves after BU's equalizer, keeping the game tied at 1-1 headed into the second half.

Thirty-three minutes later, Biola would win the battle. Jeremy Larson delivered the game-winner in the 78th minute with Brennan Furlan assisting on the goal.

After delivering on offense, BU would continue to take care of business on defense. Van Schouten protected Biola's 2-1 lead with a save in the 84th minute.

Biola plays next at Academy of Art on Thursday, October 10th at 11 a.m.
