A Great Start in NorCal

The men's soccer team kicked off their Northern California road trip with an impressive 3-1 win over Academy of Art.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.---The Biola men's soccer team kicked off their Northern California road trip with an impressive 3-1 win over Academy of Art.

"Today we had contributions from so many different players, seven different players got themselves in the stat sheet," stated head coach Joey O'Keefe. "At the moment, we have such a competitive group of players competing for minutes. The performance today was truly a collective effort, the whole team deserves credit for the result."

The Eagles scored goals in the 24th, 50th and 57th minutes.

Ryan Ellsworth was the first Eagle to score. The Freshman received a good ball from Justin Eisenmann to give BU the early lead. Ellsworth's goal was his second of the season.

Biola's next goal was a collaborative effort from Eoin Kingsley, Adrian Acevedo and Tomislav Jozinovic. Kingsley put the ball in play off a corner kick. Kingsley's ball reached Acevedo who sent a quick pass to Jozinovic who headed the ball in to give Biola their second goal (2-0).

O'Keefe continued, "Having two center backs in Tomo and Adrian combining for a goal was a huge reward for the work they've put in this year."

The Eagles' third goal was a joint effort between Biola's leading goal scorers: Cruz Navarro and Ethan Hardin.

Hardin sent a pass to Navarro from the top of the box that the Freshman converted into BU's third goal. Navarro and Hardin both have four goals so far this season.

"Things are clicking at the right time for us," concluded O'Keefe. "We have not achieved anything yet and it's still such a long season ahead, but I am pleased with our improvements so far."

Gijs van Schouten was the Eagles' goalkeeper against the Urban Knights. The Senior made two saves and only allowed ART U one goal in the 60th minute.

Biola will continue their NorCal road trip with Dominican up next. The Eagles face the Penguins on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12:30 p.m.
