Three Eagles Score, Phelps Contributes Two

The women’s soccer team had three Eagles score goals in their 4-0 shutout victory over Hawaii Pacific.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's soccer team had three Eagles score goals in their 4-0 shutout victory over Hawaii Pacific.

"Our group had a great trip up North where the players saw all of their consistent hard work pay off," stated head coach Brett Croft. "The team came back from the trip energized, cohesive, and confident. Returning home and facing APU I felt we played extremely well, unfortunate not to take advantage of our opportunities to score and giving away a very weak goal late in the game. Tonight was a great night to see everything come together on the field playing very well and scoring multiple goals."

Briley Phelps was a force to be reckoned with as she had a hand in three of Biola's four goals. Phelps recorded an assist on BU's first goal and scored the second and fourth goals.

Croft continued, "The team continues to thrive under the leadership of Briley and Mimi, two players we rely heavily on each game in multiple positions. Briley with two goals and a remarkable assist - had a great outing."

The Eagles' first goal was netted by Marije Rechin in the 32nd minute. Rechin, assisted by Phelps, put Biola ahead 1-0.

Phelps gave Biola the 2-0 lead with her first goal of the game in the 46th minute. The Sophomore was assisted by Riley Brumfield.

Serena Adrade got a piece of the action in the 59th minute, putting the Eagles' up 3-0. Nelson got the assist on Andrade's goal (3-0).

Phelps delivered the final blow in BU's 4-0 triumph. Phelps' second goal was scored in the 89th minute.

Autum Monty and Laura Brennan split time in the goal. Monty played 77 minutes and Brennan recorded 13. Monty made one save in the first half to keep the Sharks scoreless.

"The focus moving forward will be to continue to improve each and every day, focusing on one game at a time," concluded Croft.

Biola improves to 3-6-4 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest Conference while HPU fell 3-10 and 2-5.

Biola plays next on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. against Hawaii Hilo at Al Barbour Field.
