Late Push Propels Eagles Past #21 CSUN

Biola continued its winning ways, taking down No. 21 CSUN with a second half surge.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The BU women's water polo squad put together its second win over a ranked opponent in the same amount of games. A 4-0 run in the second half gave the Eagles separation for a 12-10 victory on Saturday morning over CSUN.

No. 25 Biola (2-1) took on No. 21 CSU Northridge (2-1) to kick off the opening match of the Lancer Joust at Cal Baptist.

The top-25 matchup was tightly contested throughout the morning. Over the first 22 minutes of the game, neither team held more than a one goal advantage, while the teams knotted on the scoreboard eight times with four lead changes.

The Eagles stopped the trend with a run to gain control. Maria Roldan Gonzalez sparked the rally with a score at the 1:43 mark in the third quarter. The very next possession for Biola resulted in a bigger Biola lead. This time it was Veralie Naranjo who found the back of the net, as the Eagles entered the fourth quarter leading 10-8.

The momentum stayed in BU's favor with the final eight minutes beginning to tick. Naranjo cashed in again less than two minutes in the quarter. Mattie Herzog completed the 4-0 run with a goal off a Biola power play late in the fourth period.

Biola's defense got the job done in the stretch, silencing CSUN. From the third quarter and into the fourth, BU held their opponent scoreless for over 13 minutes of game time.

Naranjo was unstoppable for the BU offense, compiling six points on five goals and one assist. She was followed closely by her fellow WWPA Player of the Week selection Roldan Gonalez who nabbed four goals on seven shots.

Herzog also logged multiple goals on Saturday with two goals and an assist to her name.
