Eagles Shutout by #4 CSULA

The men’s soccer team was shutout 3-0 by No. 4 CSULA at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA—The Biola men's soccer team was shutout 3-0 by the United Soccer Coaches' fourth-best team in the nation, Cal State Los Angeles, at Al Barbour Field.

The Golden Eagles (3-0 overall) had an impactful first half, scoring two goals in the 13th and 31st minutes.

The Biola Eagles (0-3-1 overall) were fighting back, but struggled to get past CSULA's defense and keeper who made four impressive saves. Nathan Kovalcik led his team with two shots on goal and Caleb Castaño and Luke Quinn each had one in the first half.

Biola continued trying to make something happen in the second half, but nothing seemed to fall their way. Jake Saffer fired in a great shot in the 67th minute that was robbed by CSULA's goalkeeper.

Cal State LA went on to further their lead in the second half with a break-away goal in the 86th minute that brought the score to 3-0.

Gijs van Schouten was in the goal for Biola and made two saves.

The men's soccer team plays next on Thursday, Sep. 14 against Chico State at University Soccer Stadium.
