Biola Blanked at #9 Chico State

The Biola men’s soccer team was held off the scoreboard in a 1-0 loss to nationally-ranked No. 8 Chico State at University Soccer Stadium.

CHICO, Calif.---The Biola men's soccer team was held off the scoreboard in a 1-0 loss to nationally-ranked No. 8 Chico State at University Soccer Stadium.

The Eagles (0-4-1 overall) were offensively aggressive, but were equally matched by the Wildcats (5-0-0 overall) strong backline. Biola totaled six shots on-goal, three in each half, but all were saved by the 'Cats keeper Emanuel Padilla. 

Luke Quinn, Caleb Castaño, Drew Darke, Jake Saffer, Robin Glöckle, and Travis Coombs each had a shot on target in the close matchup.

Chico State found their way onto the scoreboard in the 41st minute and managed to hold Biola for the remainder of the match. The Eagles almost tied it up in the 88th minute, but the 'Cats managed to thwart BU's final attempts which included a penalty shot by Glöckle and a rebounding shot by Castaño.

Darke led the Eagles with four shots, Castaño and Ethan Hardin were close behind with two apiece. 

Gijs van Schouten played 90 minutes in the goal and made two saves for Biola.

Biola plays next on Saturday, Sep. 16 at 12 p.m. against Sonoma State at Seawolf Soccer Field.
