Strong Start to Conference Play

The Biola men’s soccer team opened conference play with a 2-1 win at Concordia University Irvine.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola men's soccer team opened conference play with a 2-1 win at Concordia University Irvine. 

The Eagles (3-4-2 overall, 1-0 PacWest) got an early edge over the Golden Eagles (1-6-0, 0-1) with a goal in the 37th minute. Jeremy Larson found Adrian Acevedo toward the left of the box who quickly sent in Biola's first goal toward the upper right portion of the net.

Biola held CUI for the remainder of the half. Gijs van Schouten made two saves which gave BU the advantage heading into the second half.

Concordia eventually tied up the match in the 72nd minute, but Biola would have the last say in the 85th when freshman Luca McGreevey Couchman found the net for the third time of the season. 

Van Schouten made one more save in the second half which made his total three for the day after facing 17 Golden Eagles' shots. 

Ethan Hardin led the Eagles today with four shots. Behind Hardin was Caleb Castaño with three and Justin Eisenmann and Acevedo with two each. Brennan Furlan and Nathan Kovalcik contributed one. 

Biola plays next on Saturday, Sep. 30 at home against Westmont. The Eagles are set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. against the Warriors.
