Eagles and Elks Draw

The men’s soccer team came back to tie Stanton University 1-1 at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA— Travis Coombs' penalty kick goal in the 58th minute and Nicholas Daniel's two saves led the Biola men's soccer team to a 1-1 tie against Stanton University Wednesday night at Al Barbour Field.

The Eagles (1-4-2 overall) and Elks (0-1-1 overall) battled for the advantage in the first half but neither team would be successful, resulting in a 0-0 draw when they entered the halftime break.

Biola, on the attack, sent six shots the Elks' way in the first half. Two of which were on-goal and saved by SU's keeper. Meanwhile, Stanton University was only able to get in two shots and one was saved by the Eagles' defense.

The Elks ended up being first to break the standstill, scoring in the 54th minute. However, the Eagles would quickly level the score when Coombs' found the net with his penalty kick goal just four minutes later.

Tensions were running high and nine fouls and four yellow cards would be handed out in the remaining 36 minutes of action.

And despite a passionate effort, neither team would be able to get past the other before time ran out in the 1-1 draw.

Daniel's made both of his saves in the second half.

Next up for the Biola is Life Pacific on Saturday, Sep. 23 at 7 p.m. at Al Barbour Field.
