Eagles on the Attack

The men’s soccer team put on an offense show, shutting out Life Pacific 5-0 at Al Barbour Field with 30 shots.

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's soccer team put on an offense show, shutting out Life Pacific 5-0 at Al Barbour Field with 30 shots.

The Eagles (2-4-2 overall) were offensively tuned in, keeping the action on their attacking end for the majority of the match. Life Pacific (0-4-0 overall) was only able to get in two shots, both of which were in the first half. Biola had 17 shots in the first half and 13 in the second which made their grand total 30 and broke a NCAA DII Era single match team record. The previous was 27 shots against Holy Names in 2018.

BU had an early advantage, thanks to the Warriors' keeper receiving a red card in the 3rd minute which forced Life Pacific to play a player down the remainder of the match.

Justin Eisenmann opened up the scoring seven minutes later. The Junior found the net in the 10th minute with an assist from Caleb Castaño.

A little over 11 minutes later, Ethan Hardin had a solo goal that brought the Eagles up, 2-0.

Biola would score again in the 44th minute, courtesy of two freshmen. Luca McGreevey Couchman scored his first collegiate goal and the assist came from Tucker Coombs who earned his first collegiate assist.

The Eagles had a generous lead entering the second half and would gain further advantage when another Warrior received a red card which forced them to play two men down.

In the 56th minute, a Warrior foul led to an Eagles penalty kick which resulted in the Eagles' fourth goal. Samuel Vandegrift got fouled in the box and took the kick.

Before all was said and done, Biola would score one more goal. McGreevey Couchman knocked in his second goal of the game which was also the second of the Freshman's career. This one was assisted by Jason Irvin and Cameron Milbrath who both cataloged their first collegiate assists.

In the goal was none other than Aidan Burns. Burns earned his first collegiate start and held down the fort. The redshirt Freshman faced two shots and made one save in his debut.

"Burns works incredibly hard," stated head coach Joey O'Keefe. "When you have a team with four competitive goalkeepers, it's really difficult for any keepers to get minutes besides the number one.  Burns came in today in his first opportunity to start in an official match and he did a great job."

O'Keefe continued, "I'm most impressed with how the guys rallied together, coming off a match where we felt that we played poorly which shows some resiliency. Our pregame talk was about overcoming adversity and playing poorly, which is going to happen from time to time. We won't always play our best but we can have a whole new mindset and energy about us the next time we touch the field."

"This was a great opportunity to get every single player to play tonight and contribute before conference play," concluded O'Keefe.

Biola opens conference play on Wednesday, Sep. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at CUI.
