Eagles Roll to First Win

Biola men’s soccer logged its first win of 2023 with a 3-0 rout at Sonoma State.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Biola continued its non-conference slate in northern California on Saturday, facing the Seawolves of Sonoma State (2-3-1). The Eagles (1-4-1) pitched a shutout on the way to a 3-0 victory.

Justin Eisenmann and Ethan Hardin were offensive standouts. Eisenmann recorded a goal and an assist against the Seawolves and Hardin had two goals in a solid victory for the Eagles.

It did not take long for the Eagles to grab an advantage against the hosting Seawolves. Eisenmann capitalized on a pass from Dylan Memory, poking home a score at 6:45. The BU newcomer picked up his second goal of the season with the tally, while Memory offered his first assist.

The early 1-0 lead remained stagnant throughout the rest of the first half and into the second but the shots kept coming. Thirteen attempts at goal came from Biola, while six landed on frame. Four shots on goal came from Sonoma State, but three led to saves from Gijs van Schouten and one a team save.

Van Schouten recorded his second clean sheet of 2023 on Saturday, while grabbing his first win in goal.

The BU attack kept pushing, earning nine corner kicks on Saturday afternoon.

The relentless offense paid off in the 73rd minute off the foot of Ethan Hardin. The midfielder cashed in just 40 seconds after drawing a yellow card and was assisted by Andrew Darke.

Two minutes later, Hardin scored again. This time, he was helped by Eisenmann, as he moved the scoreline to 3-0 in Biola's favor.

For the remaining 16 minutes the Eagles successfully defended their lead, resulting in their 3-0 victory at Seawolf Soccer Field.

Biola will return home and get ready to face Stanton University on Wednesday, Sep. 20 at 7 p.m.
