The Eagles added seven newcomers heading into the 2023 season with the team ranking sixth in the PacWest Preseason Poll.

August 31, 2023

LA MIRADA --- Fresh faces litter the Biola volleyball roster, as the team brought in a quality group of student-athletes. The seven newcomers included six freshmen and a graduate transfer, who joined a squad led by head coach Aaron Seltzer in his 22nd year at the helm.

The BU team ended 2022 in fourth place in the PacWest standings, boasting a 17-10 overall record. The Eagles added 14 wins within conference play, while finishing the season on a two-game winning streak.

Heading into the 2023 campaign, the PacWest coaches voted to pull together a preseason poll. The Eagles tallied 74 points and placed sixth in the poll ahead of the new season.

Biola's newest additions will play an important role in the upcoming schedule. Seltzer and the coaching staff are excited for the possibilities in 2023, "Our incoming class is a fantastic group. It's one of the most solid groups that have come in since I've been here in terms of who they are as people, their impact on the court, and the culture of loving Jesus and impacting others. We are really excited about the freshman class, which should be a cornerstone class for a long time."

2023 Newcomers:

Ashlyn Beebe
Coach Seltzer: "Ashlyn: we love her to death. We've known her for a long, long time. Obviously her sister played here so we've been able to watch her grow up. We are looking for her to play DS and potentially a backup libero spot. We are excited about her athleticism, as she played outside a lot in high school and club. She has a good skill set all the way around and is a great fit for us as well."

Juliana Van Ommering
Coach Seltzer: "Juliana is just a great fit for Biola. She's a wonderful person, love her faith, love where she's at. I'm expecting big things from her as a solid sixth row outside. She is really versatile and explosive and we have been really impressed with her so far through the first week. She definitely put the time in in the offseason working hard but overall she fits perfectly with what we are looking for here at Biola.

Madison Moore
Coach Seltzer: "Madison is very good at all of her skills. I wouldn't say that she's exceptional in any one more than the other so we love that balance. She does everything very well. We feel like she can play six rows, so we are expecting to see big things from her.

Hannah Hanson
Coach Seltzer: "Hannah has been on our radar for a long time. She is a really special athlete, as she will be a dual sport athlete at Biola, running the hurdles for track and field in addition to her work on the volleyball court. She is extremely athletic and will probably be the fastest setter we have ever had. She just does things athletically that others just don't do and we love her hands. Her heart and personality are a great fit for us here."

Payton Tully
Coach Seltzer: "We are really excited about Payton. Payton is left-handed and fits well on the right side and it's been a while since we had a lefty oppo. She has fantastic range offensively, and she will add important depth in that position. She did a tremendous amount of work in the offseason and the first week has been great for her. We can see her making an impact for us right away."

Hannah Guzzetti
Coach Seltzer: "We've had our eye on Hannah for quite a while. She came out on a visit and we just had a fantastic connection with her and her family. I'm just excited about her athleticism: she's long, a really good blocker and we love her quickness and speed. We really appreciated seeing how hard she worked off the court too. She takes her volleyball very seriously and we are looking forward to a really nice long career."

Meredith Fisher
Coach Seltzer: "We were super blessed to get Meredith, as she covers a big need for us in the middle. She will provide some stability in the middle, bringing solid experience from UT Arlington. We are expecting her to come right in and be impactful right away. We have had a great first week with her. She's super mature, ready to go and we are really excited for her."
