Eagles Lead Conference

The 2022-23 Academic All-PacWest list was announced on Wednesday, as Biola paced the conference with 235 award-winners.

IRVINE, Calif. --- Academics continued to be a shining part of Biola Athletics, as the 2022-23 list of Academic All-PacWest recipients were announced on Wednesday. Multiple programs hit new highs, as the Eagles saw its best total with 238 award-winners, which led all schools in the PacWest.

The PacWest Conference recognizes student-athletes who achieved at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, completed at least two semesters at their institution and participated in regular season competition in a PacWest sponsored sport. Student-athletes who meet the criteria are recognized with the Academic All-Pacwest honors.

The crown for most recipients belonged to Biola, as the Eagles tallied 238 awards. The total surged past BU's previous best of 218 with the help of five teams hitting their best numbers as well. Biola's award total surpassed all other PacWest schools by four with Concordia trailing the Eagles in second place.

Once again, women's track and field led the way for Biola teams with 37 and was closely followed by men's track and field at 33 for a program-best mark. Men's basketball and women's basketball also reached personal-highs with 11 for each team. BU volleyball also tallied its most recipients with 13 and men's cross country tied its best at 16.

Biola's men's track and field saw the biggest increase from last year's totals, adding 13 more recipients by reaching 33 in 2022-23. BU men's track and field and men's cross country each led the PacWest in their respective sport.

The PacWest recognized 1,811 student-athletes with Academic All-PacWest honors this year, including 118 who maintained perfect 4.0 GPA's to set a new record for the conference in that category. 14 of the 4.0 GPA's belonged to Biola student-athletes: Jordan Rabe (WBB), Elijah Suwyn (MXC, MT&F), Nick Geringer (MXC, MT&F), Keira Coye (WXC, WT&F), JD Gunn (MSOC), Jennifer Morinishi (SB), Antonio Rosales Varona (MTEN), Caleb Murphy (MT&F), Jack Sapyta (MT&F), Hailey Wurzbach (WT&F), Maria Vidal Poy (WT&F), Kenna Chism (WT&F), Dominique Kirton (VB), and Abby Brewster (VB).
