LA MIRADA --- The hot corner was manned by AJ Ortiz in 2023 and the junior thrived for the Eagles. Ortiz gathered an ABCA/Rawlings All–West Region Second Team honor with Wednesday's announcement. 

The award piled on more achievements for the third baseman who already was named First Team All-PacWest and Second Team NCBWA All-West Region. 

Ortiz was one of only two Eagles to compete and start in all 46 games of the season. The junior saw his first action of his collegiate career on the offensive side of the diamond and showed his strength with a bat. Through 177 at bats, Ortiz batted .299 with 53 hits, 11 doubles and 13 home runs.

The 24 extra-base hits helped him to a .582 slugging percentage and 39 runs batted in. 13 dingers was good enough for second on the team but put him ranked at 58th in all of NCAA Division II. Five of those long balls came in a single four game series against Azusa Pacific, as he left the yard in each game including two homers in one contest.
