Biola Hosts PacWest Softball Championships

Biola University is set to host the first-annual PacWest Softball Championships beginning tomorrow with the Eagles as the No. 2 seed.

LA MIRADA---Biola Athletics has the privilege of hosting the first-annual PacWest Softball Championships, beginning tomorrow Wednesday, May 3 with the Eagles as the No. 2 seed.

Four teams will battle it out at Freedom Field for the PacWest Conference's automatic qualifier birth to the West Regionals. Concordia enters the 2023 championships as the first seed, Biola as the second, Azusa Pacific as the third and Hawai'i Pacific as the fourth seeded team.

Biola is set to face third-seeded APU in the first round which is scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday, May 3 at 5 p.m.

The Eagles and Cougars split their four-game series this season. Biola, most recently, won the last two at Freedom Field and the Cougars won the first two games at their home, the Cougar Softball Complex.

The next matchup will be the most important as the winner will advance to the winner's bracket of the two-game elimination tournament.  

Biola leads the conference with a .314 team batting average. Colby McClinton and Allie Beck have the two highest batting averages in the conference, McClinton is batting .477 and Beck .424. McClinton was just named PacWest Player AND Freshman of the Year and leads the conference in four major statistical hitting categories including on base percentage (.559), on base plus slugging (1.182) and hits (72).

Raylene Roybal leads Biola's pitching staff with an ERA of 2.12 which is the fifth-lowest in the conference. Roybal was also named a Second Team All-PacWest Pitcher.
