Eagles Stay Alive in West Regionals

The Biola softball team executed a 1-0 shutout against CSU San Bernardino to stay alive in the NCAA DII West Regionals.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola softball team executed a 1-0 shutout against CSU San Bernardino to stay alive in the NCAA DII West Regionals.

Raylene Roybal pitched an incredible game against CSU San Bernardino where she only allowed the Yotes six scattered hits while striking out nine batters. Roybal also threw two 1-2-3 innings against the Yotes.

Roybal worked through adversity, staying strong in the sixth and seventh innings when the Yotes had some momentum going their way. In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles got the first two outs of the inning and then held their ground when CSUSB started a two-out rally. A single and two walks loaded the bases and then Roybal buckled down to strike out the third out, holding down their one-run lead.

The Yotes had another two out rally in the bottom of the seventh where they got runners on first and second with two outs. Roybal and Biola's defense buckled down once again to force a Yotes pop out to shortstop which solidified their 1-0 win.

The Eagles had four hits, two of which happened in the third inning where they scored their run. In the top of the third, Roybal got hit by CSUSB's pitcher and then advanced to second by a sacrifice bunt from Kaitlyn Hawkins. Paige Gonzales pinch ran for Roybal and was pushed to third from a situational grounder by Alexis Lara.

Allie Beck then clutched up with a huge single to score Gonzales. Jennifer Morinishi also singled before the third inning ended.

Colby McClinton and Roybal also had hits against the Yotes.

Biola and Northwest Nazarene are playing right now at Eagles Field. The winner will advance to the Championship series against No. 1 seed Concordia.
