Eagles Come up Just Short

The softball team had a late-game rally, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Dominican in their 7-6 loss.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team had a late-game rally, but it wasn't enough to overtake Dominican in their 7-6 loss at Freedom Field. 

The Eagles (27-19 overall, 19-10 PacWest Conference) made it close in the bottom of the seventh, ending just one run short of the Penguins (19-27, 14-16 PacWest) in their 7-6 loss.

Biola was chasing Dominican 7-2 when they entered the bottom of the seventh and went on to score four runs to make the game close in the last half inning. The Eagles scored their runs off of four hits and two Dominican errors. Brie Nowak, Abie Nowak, Rilee Ruvalcaba and Raylene Roybal had hits in an exciting inning for the Eagles. Roybal had the double that scored Biola's final two runs of the seventh inning.

The Penguins built up their seven-run lead in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings while Biola scored their first two runs in the third inning. 

Bridgette Trujillo walked to lead off the third and then Allie Beck doubled with two outs to continue the inning for BU. Abie Nowak singled to score Trujillo and Beck which allowed Biola to lead 2-1 until the Penguins matched their two runs in the fourth.

Roybal threw the first four innings and then Jennifer Morinishi came in relief in the fifth inning. DJ Symons closed the final 1.2 innings for the Eagles.

Biola and Dominican are playing again, right now, at Freedom Field.
