O'Fallon, Ill. --- Women's water polo WWPA Championships is set to begin on Friday morning in O'Fallon, Illinois. Biola will enter the tournament as the top seed coming out of the west and will face the fourth seed out of the east in Gannon. The two teams will meet in the opening round on Friday at 12:15 pm PDT.

In 2023, Biola saw its second season as a NCAA DII program. The team stepped up and delivered with 14 wins over the 28 game campaign. In WWPA play, BU picked up five wins and one loss to lead the standings amongst the four west squads.

Last year, the Eagles won their tournament opener in their first ever trip to the WWPA tourney. BU faced off against Gannon and took the victory before falling in round two to Salem. In the third place game, Biola won in a 14-7 rout over McKendree, who will host this year's tournament.

The BU squad boasts an impressive team that featured five players amongst All-WWPA Teams. Rachel Spadt led the group with a first team selection on Thursday, following a season of 42 goals, 60 points, 23 steals and five field blocks. 

The top goal-scorer in the conference also resides in La Mirada. Kourtney Pyle was the leading scorer in the WWPA with 71 goals in 28 games played this season. The senior was an All-WWPA Honorable Mention on Thursday and led an Eagles squad to 15 double-digit goal games.

Earlier in the regular season, the Eagles took on the top seed from the east in McKendree. At the Claremont Convergence Tournament, the two teams met and Biola was victorious in a 16-13 final on March 4. 

BU's opening matchup of the tournament is against the fourth-seeded Gannon Golden Knights, who went 6-16 in 2023. In WWPA play, GU picked up one win with five losses.

Biola and Gannon are set to face off on Friday at 12:15 PDT at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
