SURPRISE, Ariz.---The Biola men's tennis team had two singles players and one doubles pair selected to the PacWest's All-Conference teams.
Alexey Prokopchuk headlined the Eagles as a First Team All-PacWest selection. Prokopchuk has been solid all season for Biola as their first court singles player. Prokopchuk is an impressive 16-2 from the first court with his longest winning streak of the season being 10 matches. Twelve of Prokopchuk's 16 wins were won in two dominant sets.
Prokopchuk has been consistently ranked as one of the best singles players in the nation by ITA with his highest ranking being No. 18 in the nation. Prokopchuk also received PacWest Player of the Week for defeating ITA's 10th-best singles player in the nation Alexander Leischner (PLNU) which led the Eagles to defeat PLNU at home.
Adrian Solorzano was selected to the PacWest's Third Team for his outstanding performances this season. In his first year, Solorzano achieved a 13-3 overall record from the third and fourth courts. Solorzano primarily played third court singles where he was a successful 11-1 and had as much as a four-match winning streak this season.
Solorzano was named PacWest PacWest Player of the Week for his 78-66, 7-5 victory over APU's Miha Velicki which allowed the Eagles to upset Azusa Pacific at the Biola Tennis Center.Â
Lastly, the Eagles had one doubles pair represented as an All-PacWest Doubles Team. Antonio Rosales Varona and Solorzano were chosen to the conference's first team.
Rosales Varona and Solorzano led Biola's doubles teams on the first court with an 8-1 overall record and a four-match winning streak heading into the PacWest Championships. The duo also picked up notable wins over #15 Midwestern, #29 Azusa Pacific, and #24 PLNU.
Rosales Varona and Solorzano were also ranked the 46th-best doubles team in the nation by ITA.
The men's tennis team is set to begin the 2023 PacWest Championships tomorrow Thursday, Apr. 20 at 1 p.m. against Concordia at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Club.
