Eagles Comeback

The softball team came back from behind to defeat Academy of Art 4-3 at Freedom Field.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team came back from behind to defeat Academy of Art 4-3 at Freedom Field.

Kaitlyn Hawkins supplied the game-winning single that allowed the Eagles to walk off the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Urban Knights led for the majority of the game, scoring runs in the first, third and fifth innings. Academy of Art led 1-0 until the third inning where the Eagles tied it up. Abie Nowak drove in the game-tying run in the third.

ART U furthered their lead by two runs in the fifth inning which put them ahead by two, 3-1. Biola wasted no time answering back, pushing back with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Jennifer Morinishi led off with a single and advanced to second when Colby McClinton walked. Alexis Lara then pushed them over with a sacrifice bunt and Abie Nowak singled AGAIN to score another run for the Eagles, 3-2.

The Eagles continued chipping away and successfully tied up the game in the sixth. Hawkins smacked a double to lead off and then Bridgette Trujillo executed a great piece of situational hitting with a sacrifice bunt. This put Hawkins in the perfect position to score when Morinishi singled up the middle. Biola held ART U scoreless in the seventh and capitalized in the bottom half of the inning. Rilee Ruvalcaba singled to get the inning going and Kylee Messmer moved her over with a sacrifice bunt. Up next came Hawkins who singled up the middle to score the game-winning run, 4-3. Kayla Bousquette threw the complete game and received her seventh win of the season (7-9). Bousquette allowed five hits and three runs to score while striking out four batters.

The Eagles improved 23-18, 15-9 PacWest Conference while the Urban Knights fell 7-38, 3-21 PacWest.

Biola and Academy of Art play again tomorrow Tuesday, Apr. 18 at 2 and 4 p.m. at Freedom Field.
