27 Hits and 21 Runs

The softball team totaled double digit hits and runs in their back-to-back wins against Academy of Art.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team had a day against Academy of Art where they unleashed 27 hits and scored 21 runs against the Urban Knights, resulting in their Tuesday doubleheader sweep.

The Eagles mercied the Urban Knights in both games. Biola won the first game 10-2 in six innings and the second game 11-3 in five. In the first game, the Eagles got off to a shaky start where the Urban Knights jumped ahead with a 2-0 lead.

However, Biola quickly turned things around in the bottom of the first when they scored five runs. Colby McClinton, Abie Nowak, Rilee Ruvalcaba, and Kaitlyn Hawkins all contributed a single in a breakout inning for Biola that put them ahead 5-2.

BU supplied three additional insurance runs in the fourth inning. McClinton, Allie Beck, Abie Nowak, and Hawkins all singled to build up Biola's 8-2 advantage.

Biola squeezed another run across in the fifth. Jennifer Morinishi singled to get the inning started and advanced to second when McClinton walked. Both runners advanced off a wild pitch and then Abie Nowak scored Morinishi with a sacrifice fly, 9-2.

The Eagles mercied the Urban Knights in the sixth. Alexis Lara was hit by the pitcher and stole second with one out to give the Eagles the walk-off run in scoring position. Cami Lara singled to keep the inning going and then Morinishi singled which led to the game-ending run being scored, 10-2.

Raylene Roybal threw the entire game, only allowing six hits and two earned runs to score. Roybal also tossed two strikeouts against the Urban Knights in a good overall performance.

Game two was an even better showing for the Eagles who racked 14 hits and 11 runs against ART U.

Some second-game offensive standouts were McClinton who was 4-for-4, Beck who was 3-for-4, Loren Meza who was 2-for-2 and Morinishi who was 1-for-2. Abie Nowak had the walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth that scored Biola's 11th run.
