Defensive Dominance

The softball team dominated on defense in their 4-2 victory over the Urban Knights.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team played strong defense in their 4-2 victory over Academy of Art at Freedom Field.

The Eagles played flawless defense and worked their way out of innings by making big defensive plays. Biola turned three double plays throughout the game, including one in the first, sixth and seventh innings which helped them stump the Urban Knights in their 4-2 win.

Raylene Roybal had a strong performance in the circle, improving her overall record to 12-6. Roybal allowed eight hits and two runs to score while tossing five strikeouts.

Looking at offense, Biola executed most of their run damage in the third inning. The Eagles scored their first run off of Urban Knight error and then Roybal blasted a two-run homer to left center to score the Eagles last two runs of the inning.

Holy Names responded by scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings which narrowed the Eagles' lead 3-2. However, Biola would answer back with an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

Abie Nowak walked to lead off the fifth inning for BU and was pushed to second by a one-out single from Roybal. Kaitlyn Hawkins then came up with two outs and knocked an RBI-single to center to score Biola's run of the inning, 4-2.

Four Eagles batted .500 or above including Allie Beck (2-for-3), Rilee Ruvalcaba (1-for-2), Roybal (2-for-3), and Jennifer Morinishi (1-for-2).

The Eagles and Urban Knights are playing in their second game, right now, at Freedom Field.
