Eagles Bested by Mustangs

The women’s tennis team was bested 4-0 by nationally-ranked No. 25 Midwestern at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's tennis team struggled to find their way against nationally-ranked No. 25 Midwestern State, eventually losing 4-0 to the Mustangs at the Biola Tennis Center.

Biola got off to a 0-1 start by losing a hard-fought doubles point. The Mustangs took the advantage by winning 6-1 on the third court, which left courts 1 and 2 battling it out. Both courts were extended to a tiebreak set. Gaby Carvajal and Lilly McNeil were tied 6-6 against their opponents and prevailed to defeat them 7-3.

That left Colbeyshae Emery and Brooke Fager in their tiebreak set which was the doubles-clinching match against MSU's Sydney Williams and Amelia Lawson. Emery and Fager fought, but eventually fell 7-3 to Midwestern State in the deciding match.

Biola struggled in their singles, recording their first loss on court 4. Emery was then forced to retire on the first court after an injury which put BU down 3-0. A final loss on the second court by Biola would then clinch the match 4-0 to MSU.

Lilly McNeill took one set from her opponent on the fourth court before the match concluded. McNeill won her first set 6-4 and was trailing 4-3 in her second set.

Gaby Carvajal was also leading a modest 1-0 on the fifth court in the first set against MSU's Skylar Minns.

With this match, the Eagles fall 4-5 on the season while the Mustangs improve 10-3 overall.

Biola's next match is tomorrow Saturday, Mar. 18 against Azusa Pacific. The Eagles face the Cougars at 10 a.m. at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.
