LA MIRADA --- Biola (6-4) finally avoided inclement weather and hosted the Mustangs of Western New Mexico (4-5) on Thursday. The squad returned to the win column, defeating WNMU in a 7-0 triumph. The shutout marked their third of the 2023 campaign

Adrian Solorzano and Antonio Rosales Varona showed out in the first match of the day. The duo were quick with their contest, opening the match with a 6-0 route on the number one court. Rosales Varona and Solorzano teamed up for the second time this year, while remaining undefeated as a pair.

WNMU responded on the second court and evened it at one doubles match apiece. No. 3 doubles would determine the first point of the afternoon. 

Alexey Prokopchuk and Alex Sedeno took on the challenge, looking for their second-straight win this season as a team. The match sat at 4-4, before the Eagles pushed ahead. The BU duo grabbed a 7-5 win to give Biola a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The match was clinched for the Eagles in quick fashion, as the match transitioned to singles play. Biola picked up three singles wins in an hour to collect four points and seal the win on the day. Solorzano and Sebastian Herrera each logged straight-set wins without giving up more than four games in a set. 

Prokopchuk provided the clincher on Thursday. The senior went 6-1 in the first set and eked out a 7-5 victory in set number two to nab his eighth singles win of the season.

The winning ways continued with Rosales Varona on court number four with back-to-back 6-4 sets. Isaac Cordova followed that up with a fifth-consecutive straight-sets win for an Eagle. The junior tallied sets of 6-3 and 6-2 for Biola's sixth point.

Callen Hein finished the job for a BU shutout on Thursday. The No. 6 singles matchup saw Hein ramp up his performance as the match played out. Set number one was a closer 6-4 win for Hein but the second set was heavily in BU's favor, as the junior completed the match with a 6-1 showing.

The Eagles will be back on their home court on Friday, facing No. 15 Midwestern State at 12:00 pm.
