Defeat til Dark

Biola baseball was in control in game two on Saturday and claimed the win in a shortened end to the doubleheader.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- Biola (2-1) had a balanced attack to finish off the three-game series against Cal State San Marcos on Saturday. Game two was shortened due to darkness but the Eagles had enough time to gather up six runs for a clean 6-0 shutout over the Cougars (1-2).

Blake Wentz was handed the ball to start the game on the mound and the freshman did not disappoint. The righty was in control from the jump, tallying 5.2 innings to earn the win. Wentz gave up just one hit on the day without allowing a run.

"Blake Wentz was absolutely dominant in game two," commented head coach Jesse Rodgers. "He pounded the strike zone and made big pitches all day."

At the plate, the Eagles entire lineup got involved. Six hits came through from six different batters. Biola bookended the game with single runs in the first and sixth frames but the big rally came in the fourth.

A pair of walks set up the success in the fourth frame. Sam Lisiak capitalized with a double to right center, tallying both RBIs. Evan Rowe kept things moving with a single before a squeeze bunt from Matthew Nyce set up another score for BU. Jonathan Smith capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI double that put the Eagles up by five.

Ultimately the Eagles split the day with CSUSM but Rodgers was happy with the effort from his squad, "We had some ups and downs today but the guys stayed with it and showed a lot of fight."

Biola baseball will return to Eagles Diamond next week, taking on Metro State on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
