Grinding it Out

The softball team grinded out a 4-2 win over Hawai’i Pacific which extended them to a five-game winning streak on the road.

KANEOHE, Hawai'i--- The Biola softball team grinded out another win against Hawai'i Pacific at Howard A.Okita Field. The Eagles' 4-2 victory is their third win of the series, guarenting their series win against HPU.

Most of the action occurred in the third inning where Biola scored the first runs of the game. With two outs, the Eagles made some commotion by supplying four consecutive-singles by Raylene Roybal, Kaitlyn Hawkins, Alexis Lara and Brie Nowak which allowed three runs to come home, 3-0.

Hawai'i Pacific responded immediately with two runs in the bottom of the third which made it a one run ball game until the seventh inning where Biola expanded their lead by one to add some additional cushion.

Hawkins doubled in the seventh inning to score Biola's final run, 4-2.

BU then did their job on defense to close out the game. Raylene Roybal tossed her fifth complete game of the season, only allowing the Sharks three hits in a great overall performance where she threw four 1-2-3 innings. Roybal improved 7-1 overall in the circle and added five strikeouts to her running total of 43 this season.

Biola improves to a five-game winning streak, 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the PacWest Conference while HPU slips 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the PacWest.

The Eagles and Sharks battle once again to complete the four-game series.
