Eagles Shutout Sharks

The softball team shutout Hawai’i Pacific 6-0 at Howard A. Okita Field.

KANEOHE, Hawai'i--- The Biola softball team closed out their series against Hawai'i Pacific with a bang, shutting out HPU and scoring six runs in their 6-0 victory.

Biola scored three runs in the first and sixth innings to build up their six-run lead. BU wasted no time when they tacked on their first three runs in the first inning. Colby McClinton got the scoring started when she tripled to deep left center to score Jennifer Morinishi who walked to lead-off, 1-0. Abie Nowak extended the inning when she was hit by a pitch and then Raylene Roybal singled to score McClinton in the next at-bat, 2-0. Biola then received their first out and would push across one more run where they benefited off an HPU error, 3-0.

The sixth inning accounted for the rest of Biola's run damage, beginning much like the third. Alexis Lara lead-off with a walk and was then scored in the next at-bat by Brie Nowak, 4-0. Bridgette Trujillo then singled to left field which advanced Allie Beck to third, who pinch ran for Brie Nowak. The Eagles then received their first out of the inning on a first-and-third play. Trujillo drew the throw to second base which allowed Beck to score on the play, 5-0.

Biola then received their second out on the next play. With two outs, Kylee Messmer worked a walk to keep the inning alive and McClinton also walked to give BU two base runners. Abie Nowak then scored Biola's last run of the inning to boost the Eagles up, 6-0.

Kayla Bousquette threw the complete game which was her second shutout of the season. Bousquette allowed six sporadic hits throughout the game, while striking out two.

The Eagles improve to a six-game winning streak, 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the PacWest Conference while the Sharks fall 3-12 overall and 0-4 in the PacWest.

Next up for Biola is Hawai'i Hilo on Friday, Mar. 3 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. PT. The Eagles will travel to the Big Island and prepare to face the Vulcans in two days.
